Chemistry faculty members are directly involved in both classroom and laboratory teaching. Faculty members also act as academic and career advisers for Luther's chemistry majors.
Students in advanced courses have opportunities for independent study and for extensive laboratory research directed by one of the staff. The January term also provides an excellent vehicle for these activities, as independent projects can be set up on or off campus.
Summer research opportunities are available under grants from governmental and private agencies. Students planning postgraduate study in chemistry can elect to establish a special major which inclludes a more extensive level of study. This advanced program has been approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS).
